Job Description

The Thermal Spray Set-Up Technician supports the preparation and surface treatment of turbine engine components by performing masking, grit blasting, and equipment setup, while following safety protocols and work instructions. The role involves hands-on technical tasks and contributes to the repair and restoration of aerospace engine parts in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure compliance
  • Clean, mask, and grit blast turbine engine components according to surface preparation standards
  • Review work instructions, sketches, and diagrams to identify tasks
  • Grit blast required areas to specified surface finishes in a controlled environment
  • Inspect work for quality, including checking for oil, residue, or oxidation
  • Assist thermal spray operators by staging materials, checking parameters, and preparing parts for spraying
  • Mask components to protect surfaces during subsequent operations
  • Follow written and verbal work instructions accurately and communicate with team members
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks such as sweeping and organizing work areas

Requirements

  • High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in reading and interpreting shop drawings and diagrams or the demonstrated ability to learn preferred.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing setting displaying attention to detail and technical aptitude helpful.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to use hand tools and have good hand eye coordination.
  • Ability to work independently and perform the job with minimum supervision.
  • Work in varying positions from time to time, including standing and sitting for portions of the shift.
  • Able to move parts weighing 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
  • Able to move less heavy parts weighing 50 pounds with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
  • Able to work in enclosed spaces.
  • Use of safety and personal protective equipment including safety glasses, TyVek jumpsuit, supplied air respirator, safety toe shoes, gloves, and hearing protection as required.
  • Occasionally use powered and non-powered hand tools.
  • Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing, vision exam, and respirator fit test.
