Job Description

The X-Ray Technician in this role performs radiographic nondestructive testing on aircraft and industrial engine components to detect defects, ensuring quality and compliance with industry standards under the supervision of a Level III NDT certified professional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and standardize x-ray equipment to inspect parts.
  • Interpret and evaluate radiographic images for acceptance or rejection.
  • Document inspection results and defect details accurately.
  • Develop work instructions based on approved procedures.
  • Perform system performance checks and maintain equipment calibration.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and radiation safety standards.
  • Identify and describe types, locations, sizes, and orientations of defects.
  • Visually inspect affected areas to prevent false positives.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of experience as a Level II in NDT methods for which qualification and or certification shall be required.
  • The ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions accurately, including reading and interpretation of shop drawings.
  • Previous experience in the use of overhead cranes.
  • Shown a previous ability to successfully pass skill level tests in other trades or disciplines.
  • Possess a current IRRSP card and or the ability to pass the IRRSP certification class and radiation safety class.
  • High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
  • Some college level or similar courses in areas such as, but not limited to, metallurgy, welding engineering and manufacturing processes helpful.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
  • Previous experience and or the ability to perform mathematical operations, including working with decimals, fractions, and basic shop math.
  • Previous experience or familiarity with measuring gages such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Ability to set up, operate, and standardize x-ray equipment to process parts, interpret and evaluate for acceptance or rejection of repair, and document the results.
  • Ability to develop work instructions from approved general procedures, requiring final approval by a Level III certified in the method.
  • Ability to choose the applicable technique and generate images as instructed.
  • Ability to inspect and evaluate prepared images and findings against rejection criteria.
  • Ability to visually inspect affected areas to verify surface conditions are not causing false positives.
  • Ability to document all findings on required forms to ensure clear recording for service history and repair requirements.
  • Ability to define the type of defect when possible, describe its location, size, and orientation, and plot indications on drawings when provided.
  • Must meet minimum vision standards for qualification, including color perception and near vision, as verified by pre-employment vision testing.
  • Ability to follow general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection when required.
  • Physical ability to work in varying positions, stand and/or sit for portions of the shift, and move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
  • Ability to occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
  • Due to the complexity of the processing of parts, the NDT Level II position must obtain supervisory prior permission for all shift early reports.
