Job Description

An experienced CNC VTL Machinist Technician responsible for precision machining of turbine engine components in a high-tech aerospace and marine repair environment, ensuring parts meet OEM specifications through setup, operation, inspection, and troubleshooting of CNC machinery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC VTL machines to machine turbine engine components to specified dimensions.
  • Inspect parts using gauges, micrometers, calipers, and other tools to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Follow work instructions and document findings accurately.
  • Identify and correct machining problems related to tools, holders, collets, and chucks.
  • Perform finishing operations such as deburring, tapping, honing, and bench work as needed.
  • Set up machines, fixtures, and tooling to achieve precise machining results.
  • Participate in training and provide expertise in on-the-job training programs.

Requirements

  • Five plus years of experience in the operation and set-up of CNC Turret Lathe VTL equipment in a job shop type environment, MTO made to order environment, and first article experience.
  • Five plus years of experience in creative problem solving related to machine setups, CNC programming, tooling, and fixturing.
  • Firm understanding of GD T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing), critical dimensioning, and the relationship between dimensions.
  • Rework experience in machining processes.
  • Strong understanding of shop math and trigonometry for machinists.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from technical drawings and prints.
  • Experience with dimensional inspection using micrometers, calipers, comparators, inspection gauges, and master gauges to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Ability to identify and correct machining problems related to tools, holders, collets, and chucks.
  • Experience with creating flat planes for machining processes and using fixtures to reduce runout.
  • Basic CNC macro coding experience.
  • Basic understanding of VTL work shift and G54 (work coordinate system).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, speaking, understanding) with other employees.
  • Pre-employment testing requirements including fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
  • Knowledge of shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
  • Physical ability to stand and/or sit for portions of the shift, move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods, and occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
