Job Description
The Surface Prep Technician supports the thermal spray team by preparing turbine engine parts through masking, surface cleaning, and grit blasting, performing pre- and post-application tasks to facilitate dimensional restoration in a modern, climate-controlled facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Mask components to protect surfaces for subsequent operations
- Apply masking tape and hard masking materials following work instructions
- Trim masking using knives or razor blades to precise dimensions
- Inspect work for completion and quality assurance
- Follow detailed work and shop drawings accurately
- Use overhead cranes to position parts
- Organize components in the department to support efficient workflow
Requirements
- 6 months to 1 year of experience with various types of masking, such as paint masking, blasting masking, autobody masking, plating masking, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and follow work instructions and accurately document processes and findings
- Some previous exposure to the use of measuring gauges, such as micrometers and calipers, and an understanding of basic shop math
- Experience with the use of overhead cranes
- High school or technical school graduate or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Must be able to use hand tools and have good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to work independently and perform the job with minimum supervision
- Work in varying positions, including standing and sitting for portions of the shift
- Able to move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods
- Follow all safety and environmental rules that apply
- Use of safety and personal protective equipment is mandatory under some conditions, including ear plugs, safety glasses, and uniforms
- Use powered and hand-held tools frequently
- Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing and a vision exam
