Job Description
An experienced CNC VTL Machinist Technician responsible for machining turbine engine components to precise specifications, performing setup, operation, inspection, and finishing tasks in a modern, climate-controlled facility within the aerospace and marine industry sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow work instructions and use gauges and tools to inspect parts and determine material removal requirements.
- Operate CNC VTL machines to achieve specified dimensions on turbine engine components.
- Use inspection gauges and hand tools to ensure dimensional accuracy of machined parts.
- Identify and correct machining issues related to tools, holders, collets, and chucks.
- Record inspection and machining findings accurately in documentation.
- Perform finishing operations such as deburring, tapping, honing, and bench work as needed.
Requirements
- Five plus years of experience in the operation and set-up of CNC Turret Lathe VTL equipment in a job shop type environment, MTO made to order environment, with first article experience.
- Five plus years of experience in creative problem solving related to machine setups, CNC programming, tooling, and fixturing.
- Firm understanding of GD T, critical dimensioning, and the relationship between dimensions.
- Rework experience on turbine engine components or similar parts.
- Strong shop math and trigonometry skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand technical drawings and specifications.
- General bench skills including use of hand-held power tools, files, assembly, and disassembly.
- Experience indicating fixtures and parts to reduce runout.
- Understanding of how to create a flat plane for the start of the machining process.
- Basic CNC Macro coding experience.
- Basic understanding of VTL work shift and G54 coordinate system.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to communicate with other employees.
- Pre-employment testing requirements including fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
- Ability to stand and/or sit for portions of the shift, move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods, and occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
- Compliance with general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
