Job Description
The Senior Multiphysics Modeler will develop simulation tools and workflows to support the design and integration of fuel cycle systems for a pioneering fusion power plant, leveraging expertise in heat and mass transport modeling and process simulation within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop simulation toolkits and workflows integrating first-principles multiphysics simulations with industrial process models for fuel cycle systems.
- Collaborate with the tritium program and process engineering team to develop a fuel cycle model for the fusion power plant ARC.
- Apply heat and mass transport modeling expertise to optimize device performance by tuning material parameters.
- Create simplified non-dimensional analyses and rigorous integrated simulations to support system understanding.
- Build and teach tools that enable independent use by other team members.
- Apply a first-principles approach to solve complex engineering problems related to fusion systems.
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses to evaluate the economics of proposed engineering solutions.
- Work within multi-disciplinary engineering teams to develop effective solutions for complex problems.
Requirements
- Applicants must have a degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
- Applicants must have experience in process modeling and programming.
- Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to apply a first principles approach in solving complex engineering problems.
- Applicants must have experience conducting cost-benefit analyses to evaluate the economics of proposed solutions.
- Applicants must have demonstrated success working on engineering projects in multi-disciplinary teams generating effective solutions to complex problems.
- The candidate must be an expert in heat and mass transport modeling.
- The candidate must have experience developing simulation toolkits and workflows that integrate first-principles multiphysics simulations with industrial process models.
- The candidate must be able to develop a fuel cycle model for a fusion power plant, supporting technology development and subsystem integration.
- The candidate must be able to optimize devices by tuning material parameters and appreciate simple non-dimensional analysis and rigorous integrated simulations.
- The candidate must enjoy teaching and building tools that others can use independently.
- This role requires compliance with U.S. laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information, specifically Export Control Laws.
