The Fiber Optic Specialist is responsible for handling, splicing, testing, and integrating optical fibers into complex fusion machine assemblies, ensuring their proper operation and continuous improvement within a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing fusion energy technology.
Key Responsibilities
Perform optical fiber handling, splicing, testing, and integration into complex design features during assembly of fusion equipment.
Ensure the functional installation, operation, and preventative maintenance of fiber optic systems and related equipment.
Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to meet project goals and objectives.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in fiber optic processes and systems.
Work within a multidisciplinary team of technicians and engineers, maintaining clear and concise communication.
Requirements
Experience performing all aspects of optical fiber work such as fiber handling, splicing, testing, and incorporation of fibers into complex design features in the process of assembling fusion machines.
Ability to ensure functional installation, health, and operation of optical fibers, including identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
Experience working closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to meet goals and objectives.
Ability to lead the way in making Earth sustainable for the future through optical fiber work.
Experience assisting R D and production staff with optical fiber work such as fiber splicing, testing, and incorporation of fibers into complex design features while minimizing damage and attenuation to the fiber throughout its lifetime.
Ability to ensure functional operation and perform preventative maintenance of equipment related to optical fiber work.
Strong communication skills for participation and clear, concise communication while working within a multi-disciplinary team of technicians and engineers.
Availability to work the first shift from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, with the possibility of overtime during certain periods based on schedule needs.
Compliance with U.S. laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information (Export Control Laws).
