Job Description

The Principal Environmental, Health and Safety Engineer is responsible for developing and overseeing safety strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing technical support for the design, assembly, and operation of fusion energy projects at Commonwealth Fusion Systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee safety strategies, workflows, and practices for the SPARC and ARC projects
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety codes, regulations, and industry standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review and update safety guidance
  • Support the definition of and response to major transients
  • Implement safety standards for activities within the projects
  • Provide technical support for engineering design, assembly, commissioning, and operations
  • Focus on Equipment Safety, Process Safety, and Operational Safety

Requirements

  • Possess a highly skilled and motivated professional background in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) engineering, with the ability to oversee safety strategies, workflows, and practices for complex projects.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards related to environmental, health, and safety requirements for fusion power projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review and update safety guidance, support the definition of and response to major transients, and implement safety standards for activities within the SPARC and ARC programs.
  • Provide technical support for engineering design, assembly, commissioning, and operations activities related to fusion power projects, specifically focusing on Equipment Safety, Process Safety, and Operational Safety.
  • Support overall EHS initiatives within the organization to promote safety and compliance across all project phases.
  • Have the legal ability and willingness to comply with U.S. export control laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information, with employment contingent upon such compliance.
