Job Description

A Mechanical Engineer responsible for executing and overseeing the manufacturing and assembly of the Toroidal Field Coil system for fusion reactors, ensuring successful transition from design to physical implementation while resolving technical challenges and supporting testing of high-field superconducting magnet systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own technical execution of the Winding Pack subassembly from final design to physical implementation.
  • Serve as the technical anchor on the manufacturing floor to resolve non-conformances and validate as-built conditions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the success of the SPARC mission and related systems.

Requirements

  • Possess a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Have experience in executing mid-to-long-term assignments that are critical to project success, specifically related to mechanical systems or assemblies.
  • Own the technical execution of a key Winding Pack subassembly, including transitioning from final design to physical realization.
  • Serve as a technical anchor on the manufacturing floor, using deep mechanical engineering fundamentals to resolve complex non-conformances and validate as-built conditions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build practical, hands-on intuition by mastering the challenges of building and testing superconducting magnet systems, specifically SPARC Toroidal Field coils.
  • Be a self-starter who values continuous learning and is eager to bridge the gap between rigorous analysis and rapid execution.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment driven by values of integrity, execution, impact, and self-critique.
  • Be able to collaborate closely with peers across multiple organizational functions including HTS magnet systems, R&D, Physics, Quality, Production, Assembly, and Program Management.
  • Comply with U.S. laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information, specifically Export Control Laws, as a condition of employment.
