A Mechanical Engineer specializing in cable magnets, responsible for designing, analyzing, sourcing, testing, and supporting the fabrication of complex magnet components used in fusion energy devices, working closely with cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Design components supporting the primary magnet systems used to shape and drive plasma in fusion devices.
Develop designs through all stages of the product lifecycle, including conceptual design, CAD modeling, analysis, sourcing, testing, and production support.
Collaborate with teammates and peers to ensure designs meet project requirements and broader organizational needs.
Support fabrication methods such as composite layups, welding, forming, and machining in extreme environments.
Present design concepts and objectives to peers and leadership to demonstrate compliance and resolve technical concerns.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
Experience in designing mechanical components, including experience with all stages of the product lifecycle such as blank-page design, CAD modeling, analysis, sourcing, vendor support, testing, production support, and peer review.
Proficiency in CAD software and analysis tools relevant to mechanical design.
Experience designing components that operate in extreme environments, such as high vacuum and near absolute zero temperatures.
Knowledge of fabrication methods including composite layups, welding, forming, and machining.
Ability to work closely with teammates and peers on adjacent teams to ensure designs meet project requirements and broader organizational needs.
Experience presenting designs to peers and leadership, including executive-level audiences, to demonstrate that design objectives have been met and to resolve technical concerns.
