The Materials Test Operator supports the materials testing and characterization laboratory by conducting various tests on materials used in fusion systems and superconducting magnets, ensuring equipment maintenance, data reporting, and collaboration with internal teams for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct materials testing and characterization using laboratory equipment such as mechanical testers, microscopes, and heat treatment systems.
Support the design and engineering of components for fusion systems and superconducting magnets through testing.
Maintain and upkeep laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Communicate with internal stakeholders regarding testing procedures and results.
Prepare specimens through metallographic polishing and other preparation techniques.
Perform tests in various environments, including cryogenic and high-temperature conditions.
Generate detailed data reports based on testing outcomes.
Support production line activities related to materials testing.
Requirements
Possess the ability to support materials testing and characterization laboratory activities, including conducting tasks such as mechanical and electrochemical testing, metallographic specimen polishing and preparation, visible light and electron microscopy, high temperature heat treatments, static and dynamic mechanical testing in environments including cryogenic and high temperature conditions, magnetic property evaluation, and other thermophysical tests.
Support the design and engineering of all components needed for fusion systems and high temperature superconducting magnets through materials testing and characterization.
Work closely with the team lead for materials testing and characterization to provide continuous support for both industry standard and customized material and component testing.
Communicate effectively between multiple internal stakeholders regarding testing activities and data reporting.
Perform equipment maintenance and upkeep to ensure proper functioning of laboratory testing equipment.
Support production line activities related to materials testing and characterization.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the materials testing laboratory.
Be available to work the second shift hours from 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm, with a 10% differential added to the pay rate for second shift.
Comply with U.S. export control laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information, with employment contingent upon such compliance.
