Job Description

The Manager, Fusion Diagnostics will lead and support the development and deployment of ionizing radiation diagnostics for the SPARC fusion project, overseeing scientists and engineers to measure plasma emissions and contribute to achieving key project milestones in fusion energy development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide guidance to scientists and engineers working on ionizing radiation diagnostics for SPARC.
  • Oversee the deployment and operation of diagnostics measuring neutron, gamma, X-ray, and vacuum ultraviolet emissions from plasma.
  • Contribute to diagnostic design, development, and transition to operational phases.
  • Collaborate with international fusion community partners and integrated diagnostic teams to deliver diagnostic capabilities.

Requirements

  • Experience providing leadership to scientists and engineers in a diagnostics or related technical environment, with the ability to carry out some responsibilities of an individual contributor as needed.
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated diagnostic team that includes partners from MIT-PSFC and the global fusion community.
  • Demonstrated capability to develop and deploy diagnostics related to ionizing radiation, including neutron, gamma, X-ray, and vacuum ultraviolet emission measurements from plasma.
  • Experience in designing, developing, or operating diagnostics tools that measure ionizing radiation emissions from plasma sources.
  • Ability to contribute to diagnostics development from design through to operation, with adaptability to roles evolving as the SPARC project progresses.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to values of integrity, execution, impact, and self-critique.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the U.S. and compliance with U.S. export control laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information.
