Job Description

The Lead Engineer, Strategic Partnerships, is responsible for building and managing external innovation collaborations with research institutions, government agencies, and private partners to accelerate fusion energy development, combining technical expertise with strategic relationship-building to drive impactful projects.

Key Responsibilities

Build and develop external innovation ecosystem by identifying, recruiting, and activating top researchers, institutions, and programs.
Represent CFS to national laboratories, universities, government agencies, international fusion programs, and private partners.
Establish funded, milestone-driven technical collaborations to address complex engineering challenges.
Collaborate with CFS and partner technical and business leads to drive programs forward and shape strategic decisions.

Requirements

Deep technical fluency in relevant engineering or scientific fields related to fusion energy or advanced research technologies.
Experience in building and managing strategic external innovation ecosystems, including identifying, recruiting, and activating researchers, institutions, and programs to accelerate technological roadmaps and mitigate risks.
Proven ability to represent an organization to external entities such as National Laboratories, universities, government agencies, international fusion programs, and private partners.
Experience in developing funded, milestone-driven technical collaborations that address complex engineering problems.
Ability to develop and collaborate directly with technical and business leads to drive programs forward and shape strategy.
Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining strategic relationships with external partners in a technical or research environment.
Experience in managing or leading programs that involve multiple stakeholders and complex project milestones.
Compliance with U.S. export control laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information, with any employment offer contingent on such compliance.
