Job Description
The Wind Technician is responsible for assisting with the maintenance and troubleshooting of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable turbine operation, primarily through hands-on technical work and site operations support.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in performing wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical maintenance
- Document work performed, parts used, and time spent using computer-based reporting
- Troubleshoot and repair SCADA communication systems
- Operate and maintain service vehicle and hand tools
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment
- Work on-site in various environments, including climbing turbines and working in confined spaces
- Support site operations as directed by supervisors
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED required or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
- Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet.
- Able to work safely in a confined space.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
- Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
- Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color coded wires.
- Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
- Able to travel as required.
- Knowledge of and the ability to use various hand tools.
- Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred.
- Able to communicate verbally and in writing and work without direct supervision during performance of work.
- Able to create, edit or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
- Follow safety procedures, observe safe working practices, and maintain a safe working environment.
- Assist in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance.
- Document all work performed, parts used, and time spent using computer-based service reporting procedures.
- Assist in troubleshooting and repair of SCADA communication systems.
- Operate and maintain a service vehicle.
- Maintain hand tools in good working order and well organized.
- Work a flexible on-call schedule when needed, including weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
- Help in all areas of site operations as directed by Site Lead and Site Manager with minimal supervision.
