Job Description
The Wind Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing wind turbine components to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable wind power generation, with levels ranging from assisting in basic maintenance to troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical issues and leading maintenance crews.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in performing wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical maintenance.
- Document work performed, parts used, and time spent using service reporting procedures.
- Troubleshoot and repair SCADA communication systems.
- Operate and maintain service vehicles and hand tools.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
- Assist in all site operations as directed by supervisors.
- Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement.
- Read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to aid troubleshooting.
- Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary.
- Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and mentor others in LOTO.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED required or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
- Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet.
- Able to work safely in a confined space.
- Must possess a valid driver s license and good driving record.
- Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
- Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color coded wires.
- Able to work safely in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
- Able to travel as required.
- Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred.
- Able to communicate verbally and in writing and able to work without direct supervision during performance of work.
- Able to create, edit or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
- Must meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group s Qualified Electrical Worker program.
- An Associate s degree in electrical or technical field and six months turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and one-year wind turbine experience (for Level II).
- An Associate s degree in electrical or technical field and two years turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and three-year wind turbine experience (for Level III).
Benefits & Perks
Compensation salary range: $45,000 - $90,000 USD depending on experience and location
Work schedule includes flexible on-call hours, potentially including weeknights, weekends, and holidays
