The Wind Technician is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable wind turbine operation, with opportunities for career progression and working in various environments.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in performing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical maintenance on wind turbines
Troubleshoot and repair wind turbine components and SCADA communication systems
Document work performed, parts used, and time spent using service reporting procedures
Operate and maintain service vehicles and hand tools
Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment
Work on all areas of site operations as directed by supervisors
Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary
Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and mentor lower-level technicians
Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required
Requirements
A high school diploma or GED required or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet.
Able to work safely in a confined space.
Must possess a valid driver s license and good driving record.
Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color coded wires.
Able to work safely in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
Able to travel as required.
Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred.
Able to communicate verbally and in writing and able to work without direct supervision during performance of work.
Able to create, edit or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
Must meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group s Qualified Electrical Worker program.
An Associate s degree in electrical or technical field and six months turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and one-year wind turbine experience (Level II requirement).
An Associate s degree in electrical or technical field and two years turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and three-year wind turbine experience (Level III requirement).
Benefits & Perks
Compensation salary range: $45,000 - $90,000 USD depending on experience and location
Work schedule includes flexible on-call hours, possibly including weeknights, weekends, and holidays
