Job Description
The Wind Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing wind turbine components to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation, with opportunities for advancement through different levels of expertise and responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in performing wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical maintenance.
- Document work performed, parts used, and time spent using service reporting procedures.
- Troubleshoot and repair SCADA communication systems.
- Operate and maintain service vehicles and hand tools.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
- Work on all site operations as directed by supervisors.
- Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component repairs and replacements.
- Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary.
- Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and mentor lower-level technicians.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED is required, or willingness to obtain one within the first 6 months of employment.
- Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet.
- Able to work safely in a confined space.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
- Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
- Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color-coded wires.
- Able to work safely in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
- Able to travel as required.
- Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred.
- Able to communicate verbally and in writing, and able to work without direct supervision during performance of work.
- Able to create, edit, or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
- Must meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group’s Qualified Electrical Worker program.
- An Associate’s degree in electrical or technical field and six months turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and one year wind turbine experience (for Level II).
- An Associate’s degree in electrical or technical field and two years of turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and three years of wind turbine experience (for Level III).
Benefits & Perks
Compensation salary range: $45,000 - $90,000 USD depending on experience and location
Work schedule includes flexible on-call hours, potentially including weeknights, weekends, and holidays
