The Solar Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing solar PV systems and related equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable solar power plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot, maintain, service, and repair solar PV systems and associated equipment
Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on PV solar equipment
Operate electrical and mechanical systems of the solar power plant
Execute electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation calibration, and control system repairs
Complete work orders and documentation related to maintenance and operations
Ensure all work complies with environmental and safety regulations
Requirements
Possess a high school diploma or GED, or be willing to obtain a GED within the first 6 months of employment.
Demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
Understanding of general workplace safety and the ability to follow safety standards, as well as help the company improve upon the standards in place.
Ability to operate a computer with technical proficiency of standard business software.
Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-tasking team.
Possess a valid state driver’s license and have a good driving record, with the ability to drive a company vehicle.
Ability to work overtime and non-standard working hours including nights, holidays, and weekends when needed.
Additionally, for Level II: At least 1 year of experience in a power plant or PV Solar O&M EPC experience, and 2 years of field experience with significant I E, I C, and/or C I Electrician experience, or demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, single craft journeyman skills such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid state theory application.
Additionally, for Level III: At least 4 years of PV solar experience, with I E, I C, and/or C I Electrician experience considered in lieu of applicable experience, proven experience with electrical construction projects, demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, journeyman skills such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid state theory, knowledge of complex analog and digital instrumentation and control systems, proper methods for troubleshooting, repairing, and adjusting instruments and control systems, and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, work without direct supervision, and travel approximately 5% of the time.
Complete work orders for the preventive maintenance management system.
Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on all PV Solar equipment.
Execute routine electrical troubleshooting and repair, instrumentation calibration and troubleshooting, and perform complex maintenance such as distributed control systems and inverter troubleshooting as assigned.
Prepare and implement switching and clearance orders working with the Operations Center.
Operate all electrical and mechanical PV Solar power plant systems.
Write Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, Operating Instructions, and other documents as assigned by supervisor.
Ensure work is performed in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements.
