The Senior Associate at CRA's Energy practice conducts research, analysis, and modeling related to power markets, transmission, and energy systems, providing data-driven insights and strategic advice to clients involved in energy market development, regulation, and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Manage energy practice teams in market and transmission analysis engagements
Conduct research and analyze data using software to deliver insights
Act as custodian of nodal production costing and power flow models
Develop forecast scenarios, interpret study results, and identify mitigation options
Support development of industry-leading models through research, programming, and vetting
Create presentations and reports to communicate findings to clients
Present complex information effectively to clients and internal teams
Oversee junior staff in producing reports, presentations, and market analyses
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Management, or related fields; a Master's degree is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in markets and transmission planning space, power flow analysis, nodal production cost analysis, and assessment of congestion basis-risk across Eastern RTO markets.
At least 2 years of professional experience directly managing or leading the work of others.
Fluency in power flow assessment packages such as PowerGEM TARA, GE-PSLF, PSS-E, or PowerWorld with at least 3 years of experience.
Fluency in nodal production cost models such as PROMOD, Aurora, Plexos, or Gridview with at least 3 years of experience.
Knowledge of RTO and regional planning authority planning processes, including interconnection rules and regional reliability planning processes for PJM, MISO, and SPP.
Excellent presentation skills and writing ability.
Strong problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and willingness to provide mentorship and supervision to junior staff members.
Strong project management and client engagement skills.
