A UX Designer for Developer Experience at Canonical is responsible for designing and building tools that enhance the software development process, focusing on open source projects, and collaborating with engineering teams to improve user experience and design systems for complex products.
Key Responsibilities
Design and build tools to enable users to build, package, and maintain open source software
Collaborate with product managers and engineers to improve developer experience
Support complex products through design processes and UX heuristics
Evolve and promote design systems to ensure consistency and efficiency
Contribute to broader design efforts within the organization
Requirements
Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path, with a Bachelor’s or equivalent in User Experience, Design, or STEM
Knowledge and passion for user experience, technology, and design
Commitment to continuous learning and improvement, demonstrated by curiosity, flexibility, and a scientific approach
Result-oriented with a drive to finish work and celebrate success
Confidence in user research practices and engagement with the latest design research and innovation
Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events, with each trip up to two weeks long
Excellent communication skills, comfortable working with engineers, designers, and executives, and able to present design positions with clarity and precision
Ability to connect design leadership to the strategic vision of the company
Experience in designing and building tools that enable users to build, package, and maintain software, with a focus on open source
Experience collaborating with product managers and engineers to shape developer experience
Experience supporting complex products through design and UX heuristics
Experience evolving and evangelizing design systems that drive consistency and efficiency
Understanding of the broader scope of work and interconnected constraints within design projects
Ability to support cross-functional efforts within a horizontal design team
Willingness and ability to work remotely in the EMEA region
