A Technical Author at Canonical is responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving technical documentation across various teams and products, collaborating with colleagues and engaging with user communities to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the documentation and overall user experience.
Key Responsibilities
Create, maintain, and improve software and internal documentation
Collaborate with team members to produce effective documentation contributions
Influence product development and design through expert documentation and user feedback
Engage with user communities to ensure documentation meets their needs
Standardize content structure, presentation, style, and language across products
Advance documentation best practices and contribute to the company's documentation discipline
Requirements
Demonstrable documentation skills, insight and enthusiasm
Experience of software development contexts
Familiarity with Linux, working on the command line, Git, and documentation markup languages reStructuredText and MyST
Hold a BSc BA degree or equivalent
Ability to travel twice a year for up to two weeks for events
