A Technical Author at Canonical is responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving technical documentation across various teams and products, collaborating with colleagues and engaging with user communities to enhance the quality and effectiveness of software and internal documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Create, maintain, and improve software and internal documentation
Collaborate with team members to produce effective documentation contributions
Influence product development by providing expert feedback on function and design
Engage with user communities to ensure documentation meets their needs
Standardize content structure, presentation, style, and language across products
Advance documentation best practices and contribute to the documentation discipline
Requirements
Be a technical writer with a programmer's mindset, or a programmer with a record of producing excellent documentation.
Have demonstrable documentation skills, insight, and enthusiasm.
Have experience of software development contexts.
Be familiar with Linux, working on the command line, Git, documentation markup languages reStructuredText, MyST.
Hold a BSc, BA degree or equivalent.
Be able to travel twice a year for up to two weeks for events.
