Job Description
Canonical is seeking a Staff-level Software Engineer to develop and enhance identity and access management solutions across their enterprise products and websites, focusing on authorization, authentication, and security protocols using Go and Python in a remote, globally distributed team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain identity management solutions for authentication and authorization across products and websites.
- Develop and enhance APIs and authentication flows supporting CLI and web clients using Go and Python.
- Review code, ensure quality standards, and collaborate on technical solutions within a distributed team.
- Create and manage Juju charms to handle operational concerns.
- Modernize and adopt best practices in identity and access management technologies.
- Own the design and delivery of identity management features at scale.
- Collaborate on strategy, facilitate integrations, and contribute to product improvements.
Requirements
- Experience building identity and access management products, specifically with authorization and access management solutions.
- Familiarity with open source software, standards, protocols, and concepts in the identity space such as OpenID, OAuth, LDAP.
- Experience implementing authorization frameworks in distributed systems.
- Strong background in software engineering with a technical degree or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in writing clean web service APIs supporting CLI and web frontend clients using Go (Golang) and Python.
- Ability to design and implement new features and enhancements from specifications to production and ongoing operations at scale.
- Experience reviewing code produced by other engineers and helping to set quality standards.
- Ability to create and enhance management, authentication, and authorization API endpoints.
- Experience crafting end-user authentication flows from design to implementation.
- Experience writing Juju charms operators to manage operational concerns.
- Ability to modernize the identity stack of websites and products by driving adoption of best-of-breed IAM technologies.
- Excellent written and spoken English with professional presentation skills.
- Ability to work proactively with a distributed team, leading technical efforts and discussions.
- Comfort with Ubuntu as a development and deployment platform.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events, with trips up to two weeks long.
- Exceptional academic record from high school and university, or a compelling alternative narrative.
- Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work remotely, with the discipline to deliver results independently.
