A remote Software Engineer role focused on sustaining and troubleshooting open source software components within Ubuntu, including Linux, cloud technologies, and open source applications, with responsibilities in bug fixing, upstream collaboration, and customer support.
Key Responsibilities
Resolve complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes
Maintain close collaboration with Canonical's Field, Support, and Product Engineering teams
Participate in upstream open source communities
Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and coordinate with upstream for inclusion
Review code produced by other engineers
Troubleshoot and address software issues across various layers of the stack
Contribute to process, tools, and documentation improvements through team discussions
Requirements
Professional experience as a software engineer
Background in Computer Science, STEM or similar field
Strong experience with Linux, and at least one of the following: Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes or other cloud technologies
Strong development-level experience with at least one of Python, Go, C or C++ on Linux
Ability to troubleshoot with debugging tools like gdb
Familiarity with git source code repositories and branches
Willingness to work remotely and travel internationally up to 10% of work time for team meetings, events and conferences

Maintaining a close working relationship with Canonical’s Field, Support and product engineering teams

Prioritizing work and managing your time effectively against those priorities
Participating in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation
