Job Description
A Software Engineer at Canonical will develop and automate Linux-based cloud infrastructure, build and enhance Ubuntu features for public cloud environments, and collaborate with global teams and partners to deliver reliable open source software solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Build automated, reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelines
- Design, develop, and integrate new features into Ubuntu for public cloud support
- Collaborate with a distributed team and external partners
- Write high-quality code to create new features and fix issues
- Design and architect complex systems and cloud integrations
- Debug issues and participate in code reviews and design discussions
Requirements
- Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field
- Practical experience with public clouds
- Experience with at least three of the following: containers (Docker, Kubernetes), DevOps automation, open source projects, APIs, Linux systems administration, Python packaging, cloud-based applications
- At least experience in Python software development on Linux
- Ability to build automated, highly reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelines
- Ability to design, build, and integrate new features and enhancements into Ubuntu that support users in public clouds
- Proficiency in writing high quality code to create new features
- Ability to design and architect complex new systems and integrations with cloud platforms
- Experience debugging issues and producing high quality code to fix them
- Experience reviewing code produced by other engineers and participating in design discussions
- Willingness to work from home with the possibility of global travel for 2 to 4 weeks for internal and external events
- Ability to collaborate proactively with a distributed team and engage with open source community and commercial partners
