Job Description
A software engineer at Canonical will develop and maintain open source web service APIs supporting their marketplaces, collaborating with a global team to design, implement, and improve backend systems primarily using Python and Golang, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and open source technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate remotely with a globally distributed team.
- Write clean web service APIs to support CLI and web frontend clients using Python and Golang.
- Design and implement new features and enhancements from specifications to production and ongoing operations at scale.
- Review code and technical designs produced by other engineers.
- Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding effective solutions.
Requirements
- Demonstrated professional proficiency in developing public-facing APIs and web applications using Python.
- Experience in designing and implementing new features and enhancements from specification to production and ongoing operations at scale.
- Ability to review code and technical designs produced by other engineers.
- Experience in collaborating remotely with a globally distributed team.
- Proficiency in writing clean web service APIs to support both CLI and web frontend clients, using Python and optionally Golang.
- Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, with the ability to effectively design data models that perform well and tune queries to access them.
- Comfort with Ubuntu as a development and deployment platform.
- Strong academic performance in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar degree.
