Job Description

A software architect role focused on leading the design and development of Canonical's LXD container and virtual machine orchestration platform and MicroCloud infrastructure, involving distributed systems, virtualization, networking, and cloud technologies, with a leadership component to guide engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the architecture, design, and evolution of LXD and MicroCloud products
  • Mentor, develop, and advise colleagues in their career progression
  • Develop software in Golang and C for LXD and MicroCloud
  • Review code produced by other engineers
  • Ensure the security and performance of the products
  • Provide technical leadership within Canonical and the community

Requirements

  • An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
  • Experience in developing with Golang and C programming languages.
  • Experience with storage, networking, and virtualization technologies.
  • Experience with container technologies.
  • Experience with concurrent, distributed systems.
  • Professional written and spoken English language skills.
  • Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred.
  • Technical leadership experience including team motivation, direction, and pace.
  • Ability to develop in Golang and C, review code produced by other engineers, and ensure the product is secure and performant.
  • Demonstrated drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations.
  • Well-organized, self-starting, and able to deliver to schedule.
  • Conscientiousness and attention to detail, with a focus on performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Experience with Linux-based operating systems, specifically Debian or Ubuntu.
