Job Description
Canonical is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to manage and automate enterprise infrastructure at scale using Python, working across bare metal, containers, and applications in a remote, globally distributed environment. The role involves designing, operating, and evolving cloud and open source infrastructure to ensure mission-critical services for global customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and operate cloud infrastructure using Python automation tools.
- Manage and maintain OpenStack, Kubernetes, and software-defined storage systems.
- Implement and practice DevSecOps principles across infrastructure and applications.
- Develop and improve automation for enterprise infrastructure at scale.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in mission-critical, high-pressure operational environments.
- Stay current with the latest open source infrastructure technologies and perform system upgrades.
- Collaborate with global teams and participate in in-person team sprints twice a year.
Requirements
- Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
- Experience with Linux and familiarity with Linux networking and storage
- Python software development expertise
- Operational experience in a high pressure operations environment with mission-critical services for global brand name customers
- Ability to work in a globally remote role
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long
- Belief that automation is a pure software engineering problem, not a hack-it-till-it-works-for-me problem
- Interest in the scientific approach to operations at scale, driven by metrics and code
- Ability to learn the entire stack, from bare metal networking and kernel up to serverless and open source applications
- Ability to work in a high pressure operations environment with mission-critical services for global brand name customers
