Job Description
Canonical is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to manage and automate large-scale cloud infrastructure using Python, focusing on open source technologies like OpenStack and Kubernetes, and ensuring mission-critical services run reliably and efficiently in a remote, global environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and operate cloud infrastructure using Python automation tools.
- Manage and maintain OpenStack, Kubernetes, and software-defined storage systems.
- Implement and practice DevSecOps across bare metal, containers, and applications.
- Develop and improve automation scripts and infrastructure as code for enterprise operations.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and ensure the reliability of mission-critical cloud services.
- Collaborate on upgrades and updates to open source infrastructure to keep systems current.
- Work in a high-pressure environment to support global customers with infrastructure needs.
Requirements
- Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
- Experience with Linux and familiarity with Linux networking and storage
- Python software development expertise
- Operational experience in a high pressure operations environment with mission-critical services for global brand name customers
- Ability to work in a globally remote role
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long
- Ability to learn the entire stack, from bare metal networking and kernel up to serverless and open source applications
- Interest in the full open source infrastructure stack from metal to containers
- Belief that automation is a pure software engineering problem, not a hack-it-till-it-works-for-me problem
- Interest in the scientific approach to operations at scale, driven by metrics and code
