Job Description
Canonical is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to manage and automate large-scale cloud infrastructure using Python, focusing on open source technologies like OpenStack and Kubernetes, and ensuring mission-critical services run reliably and efficiently in a remote, global environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and operate cloud infrastructure including OpenStack, Kubernetes, and software-defined storage.
- Develop and maintain automation tools using Python to manage infrastructure and applications.
- Implement and practice DevSecOps principles across bare metal, containers, and applications.
- Manage and support mission-critical services for global customers in a high-pressure environment.
- Stay current with the latest open source infrastructure technologies and perform system upgrades.
- Collaborate with teams to ensure infrastructure security, reliability, and performance.
Requirements
- Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
- Experience with Linux and familiarity with Linux networking and storage
- Python software development expertise
- Operational experience in a high-pressure environment with mission-critical services for global brand name customers
- Ability to work in a globally remote role
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events, for up to two weeks each time
- Ability to learn the entire stack, from bare metal networking and kernel up to serverless and open source applications
- Interest in the full open source infrastructure stack from metal to containers
- Belief that automation is a pure software engineering problem, not a hack-it-till-it-works-for-me problem
- Interest in the scientific approach to operations at scale, driven by metrics and code
