Job Description
The Revenue Accounting Manager at Canonical is responsible for overseeing revenue recognition processes, ensuring compliance with IFRS 15, and driving automation and efficiency across sales and finance systems. The role involves leading a team, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and maintaining accurate and transparent revenue reporting in a fast-growing technology environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design standard contracts and improve revenue processes
- Drive automation and configuration enhancements in systems like NetSuite for revenue lifecycle management
- Review and assess revenue recognition impacts of non-standard contracts and new products
- Lead, mentor, and develop the revenue accounting and systems accounting team
- Support month-end revenue close activities, including reconciliations and fluctuation analysis
- Maintain effective internal controls over revenue transactions and reporting
- Research and prepare accounting memos on revenue recognition and policy issues
- Liaise with external auditors on order-to-cash and revenue recognition matters
Requirements
- A professional qualification in accounting such as CPA, CA, or an equivalent qualification with excellent technical accounting skills and IFRS experience.
- An undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance, or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path.
- A detailed understanding of IFRS 15 and relevant rules related to SaaS and services.
- Leadership or management responsibility experience, including a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations.
- Experience of software licensing, subscription, and services revenue accounting and operations.
- Experience driving revenue recognition and scaling accounting processes in a high-growth environment.
- Experience with ERP, Rev Rec, CRM, CPQ, and other relevant software categories, with NetSuite and Salesforce preferred.
- Experience in a multi-country, multi-currency operations and tax environment.
- Professional written and spoken English skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
- Thoughtfulness and self-motivation.
- Result-oriented mindset with a personal drive to meet commitments.
- Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long.
