Job Description
A MAAS Systems Engineer at Canonical is responsible for managing and operating a data center lab to develop, deploy, and improve hardware and network automation tools, ensuring efficient server provisioning and testing for Ubuntu certification in a collaborative, globally distributed environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and operate the lab for Ubuntu server certification of hardware and silicon designs
- Develop and maintain automation tools for server deployment, configuration, and hardware commissioning using Python
- Create integrations with testing and scheduling software such as Testflinger and contribute to its improvements
- Remotely operate and ensure the availability of a fully automated server and network hardware lab
- Enhance hardware and network monitoring through automation and testing
- Collaborate with hardware engineers, kernel teams, and other stakeholders to improve hardware compatibility and performance
Requirements
- A STEM Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Curiosity to find out why some systems misbehave, and drive to figure out how to make them behave
- Python programming experience
- Linux Administration experience
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English
- Ability to work with a globally distributed team of passionate engineers
- An exceptional academic track record from both high school and preferably university
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events
