Job Description

A MAAS Systems Engineer at Canonical is responsible for managing and operating a data center lab to develop, deploy, and improve hardware and network automation tools, ensuring efficient server provisioning and testing for Ubuntu certification in a collaborative, globally distributed environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and operate the lab for Ubuntu server certification of hardware and silicon designs
  • Develop and maintain automation tools for server deployment, configuration, and hardware commissioning using Python
  • Create integrations with testing and scheduling software such as Testflinger and contribute to its improvements
  • Remotely operate and ensure the availability of a fully automated server and network hardware lab
  • Enhance hardware and network monitoring through automation and testing
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, kernel teams, and other stakeholders to improve hardware compatibility and performance

Requirements

  • A STEM Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or Software Engineering
  • Curiosity to find out why some systems misbehave, and drive to figure out how to make them behave
  • Python programming experience
  • Linux Administration experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English
  • Ability to work with a globally distributed team of passionate engineers
  • An exceptional academic track record from both high school and preferably university
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events
