Job Description

A Data Center Infrastructure Engineer at Canonical is responsible for managing and maintaining the company's lab environment used for Ubuntu server certification, involving hardware setup, software automation, and collaboration with engineering teams to ensure optimal hardware and network performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and operate the automated server and network hardware lab in Toronto
  • Maintain accurate inventory and hardware layout of the data center
  • Receive, install, and configure new hardware components
  • Use software tools to deploy, configure, and update servers and network switches
  • Exercise MAAS functionality through testing and scheduling software, report issues, and troubleshoot problems
  • Enhance and automate hardware and network monitoring systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware specialists, kernel engineers, and certification teams
  • Utilize Python programming skills to improve software-driven data center operations

Requirements

  • A STEM Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or Software Engineering
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Data centre experience
  • Linux Administration experience
  • Python programming experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English
  • Ability to work with a globally distributed team of passionate engineers
  • An exceptional academic track record from both high school and preferably university
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events
