Job Description

A Linux devices software engineer at Canonical works on developing and maintaining mission-critical software components for Snap packages, focusing on security, performance, and device management across Linux platforms, with an emphasis on open source collaboration and system-level troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team to develop and improve software features
  • Write high-quality code for new features and bug fixes in Golang and other languages
  • Debug Linux system-level issues to ensure robustness and performance
  • Review code produced by other engineers to maintain code quality
  • Discuss ideas and collaborate on solutions for software development challenges
  • Ensure software robustness against unexpected events such as power outages

Requirements

  • Professional software development experience using Go, Python, C, or C
  • General knowledge and experience with Linux as a developer platform, including Linux system-level fundamentals such as cgroups, namespaces, and apparmor
  • A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field
  • Commitment to software testing, code reviews, and maintainable code
  • Ability to collaborate proactively with a distributed team, write high quality code to create new features, debug Linux system level issues, review code produced by other engineers, and discuss ideas to find good solutions
  • Experience or strong interest in working on mission-critical Golang code, focused on software delivery, containers, security sandboxing, telemetry, and device management
  • Ability to work from home with the flexibility to travel globally for up to two weeks, twice a year
