Job Description
Canonical is seeking junior engineers to contribute to the development, packaging, testing, and maintenance of Ubuntu's open source software platform, working across various teams to ensure performance, resilience, and innovation in open source operating systems and applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship foundational systems software and applications in Rust, Go, Flutter, and Python
- Integrate open source software from boot firmware to cloud applications deployment
- Package open source software for distribution using Debian and Snap packaging formats
- Automate the build, testing, and shipping processes for Ubuntu
- Maintain and evolve the Linux distribution and its repositories
- Debug issues and develop robust solutions
- Contribute to upstream and related open source projects
- Collaborate with a globally distributed team
- Create and improve technical and community documentation
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path demonstrating relevant skills and experience.
- Drive and a track record of going above and beyond expectations.
- A passion for open source software.
- Experience with Rust, Go, Python, Flutter, or C/C++.
- Professional written and spoken English.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks each.
