An Engineering Manager role at Canonical responsible for leading a team that develops and optimizes Ubuntu images for cloud partners, ensuring high performance, security, and automation across various workloads while fostering team growth and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop a team of engineers across multiple time zones
Mentor, coach, and support the professional growth of team members
Contribute to technical leadership through code reviews and architectural guidance
Build and maintain automated, reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelines
Collaborate with internal teams, open source community, and external partners
Ensure high-quality software delivery following agile development practices
Manage stakeholder expectations and facilitate effective communication
Promote a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values
Engage in strategic planning and execution for team projects and goals
Requirements
Build and lead a team of engineers in your and similar timezones.
Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback and hands-on career development.
Demonstrate sound engineering principles and directly contribute toward your team’s goals.
Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders.
Lead modern, agile software development practices.
Ensure a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values.
Build automated, highly reliable image delivery, testing and publication pipelines.
Engage with many other teams at Canonical, as well as the open source community and commercial partners.
Work from home with the ability to travel up to 15 days for internal and external events.
Mentor, develop and grow people, with a proven track record of doing so.
Possess knowledge and passion for software development.
Focus on success and the delivery of timely, high-quality software.
Have experience and commitment to agile development methodologies.
Hold a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM or a similar field.
Have software development experience in Python or Golang.
Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
Have practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS.
