Job Description
Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager for IAM to lead the development of secure, high-performance identity and access management services using Go and Python, working on distributed systems across cloud, bare metal, and Kubernetes environments. The role involves technical leadership, software design, code review, and collaboration with open source communities to shape the future of identity management.
Key Responsibilities
- Build high-performing Go and Python services for identity and access management solutions.
- Define the technical vision for IAM products in collaboration with product management.
- Manage the software development lifecycle, including designing, coding, testing, and reviewing software.
- Lead and coach a software engineering team, including hiring and performance management.
- Work with upstream open source projects and internal teams to deliver secure, scalable software across various environments.
- Ensure software security, performance, and reliability through design and implementation.
- Participate in industry events, open source communities, and collaborative projects.
Requirements
- Proven experience hiring and leading a high performance software engineering team
- Experience with Go and Python software development
- Ability to design and implement complex, distributed systems
- Experience working with container technology and Kubernetes
- Strong understanding of software infrastructure security and performance
- Experience designing and or operating large scale distributed systems
- Knowledge of identity and access management technologies and standards is desirable but not essential
- Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
- Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path
- Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
