Job Description

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager for IAM to lead the development of secure, high-performance identity and access management services using Go and Python, working on distributed systems, cloud, and open source projects to enhance access solutions across their products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build high-performing Go and Python services for identity and access management solutions.
  • Define the technical vision for IAM products in collaboration with product management.
  • Manage the software development lifecycle, including designing, coding, testing, and reviewing software.
  • Lead and coach a software engineering team, including hiring and performance management.
  • Work with upstream open source projects and internal teams to deliver high-quality, deployable software.
  • Ensure software security, performance, and scalability in distributed systems environments.
  • Participate in industry events, hackfests, webinars, and open source community engagement.

Requirements

  • Proven experience hiring and leading a high performance software engineering team
  • Experience with Go and Python software development
  • Ability to design and implement complex, distributed systems
  • Experience working with container technology and Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of software infrastructure security and performance
  • Experience designing and or operating large scale distributed systems
  • Knowledge of identity and access management technologies and standards is desirable but not essential
  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
