Job Description

The Security Engineering Manager will lead and develop a team of engineers focused on enhancing the security features of Ubuntu, particularly through the AppArmor security module, while collaborating across teams to protect millions of users worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, providing coaching, mentorship, and career guidance
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables
  • Represent the team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
  • Develop and promote engineering and organizational best practices
  • Plan and manage progress on goals and projects related to security features, particularly for AppArmor
  • Collaborate with security engineering leadership and cross-functional teams to address emerging threats and improve security measures

Requirements

  • Proficient in C programming language and have a good understanding of Linux kernel development.
  • Experience working with Linux Security Modules.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or STEM field, or a compelling narrative about an alternative educational or professional path.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proven track record of developing and growing engineering talent.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Demonstrated drive for continual learning.
  • Ability to develop engineering talent, represent the team and product from a technical perspective, and drive collaboration with other teams and customers.
  • Experience engaging directly with community and customers.
  • Ability to lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior levels.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback to team members.
  • Ability to implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Experience planning and managing progress on goals and projects.
  • Ability to build trust, relationships, and confidence with colleagues, partners, and community.
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks each time.
