This is a technical management role at Canonical leading a remote engineering team responsible for developing and maintaining scalable Python and Golang micro-services that support open source software distribution platforms, with a focus on team leadership, engineering excellence, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a remote engineering team focused on developing Python and Golang micro-services for software distribution.
Develop and review code, provide architectural leadership, and ensure engineering best practices.
Build and maintain clean web service APIs supporting CLI and web clients.
Collaborate with other teams, product managers, and open-source community partners to align on goals and deliverables.
Mentor, coach, and develop team members to foster growth and high performance.
Set expectations and facilitate effective communication with stakeholders and management.
Contribute to the engineering roadmap with achievable goals and ensure successful delivery of high-quality software.
Promote a healthy engineering culture, ensure documentation, and optimize for quality and performance.
Requirements
Must have experience in leading modern, agile software development practices.
Must have demonstrative experience of being a role model for sound engineering principles and directly contributing toward your team’s goals.
Must be willing to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
Must have experience and commitment to agile development methodologies.
Must have software development experience in Python.
Experience in Golang in addition to Python would be a big plus.
Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
Practical experience with Linux system administration.
Must be technically strong and fluent in the programming language, architecture, and components that their team uses.
Must be able to develop and review code as a leader.
Must be capable of building clean web service APIs to support CLI and web frontend clients using Python and optionally Golang.
Must be able to collaborate closely with other Engineering Managers, product managers, and architects to produce an engineering roadmap with ambitious and achievable goals.
Must develop and review code, facilitate technical delivery, and ensure a high-performing team.
Must help team members grow as engineers, do meaningful work, and work well with colleagues and the community.
Must be committed to healthy engineering practices, documentation, quality, and performance optimization.
Must be able to lead a remote team of engineers in your time zone.
Must have experience in forming a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with company values.
Must have a track record of mentoring, developing, and growing people.
