Job Description
This role is a technical management position at Canonical, leading a remote engineering team responsible for developing and maintaining scalable Python and Golang micro-services that support open source software distribution platforms like the Snap Store and Charmhub.io, with a focus on fostering a healthy engineering culture and delivering high-quality SaaS products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a remote engineering team to develop Python and Golang micro-services for the software distribution system.
- Develop and review code, provide architectural leadership, and ensure engineering best practices.
- Build and maintain clean web service APIs supporting CLI and web clients.
- Collaborate with other teams, product managers, and external partners to align on goals and deliverables.
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members to grow their technical and professional skills.
- Facilitate technical delivery, ensure high-quality software, and optimize system performance.
- Contribute to creating a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
- Participate in strategic planning, set expectations, and reflect on team progress and goals.
Requirements
- Must be a technically strong Engineering Manager with the ability to run an effective team and develop colleagues you manage.
- Must have experience in leading modern, agile software development practices.
- Must have demonstrative experience of being a role model for sound engineering principles and directly contributing toward your team’s goals.
- Must have experience in forming a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values.
- Must be knowledgeable and passionate about software development.
- Must have experience and commitment to agile development methodologies.
- Must have software development experience in Python.
- Experience in Golang in addition to Python would be a big plus.
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Practical experience with Linux system administration.
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
- Location flexibility to be based remotely in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, or Africa time zones.
