The Engineering Director at Canonical is responsible for leading multiple engineering teams that develop and operate core internal software products, including billing, contracts, and security patch services, to support the company's business growth and innovation efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Lead multiple engineering teams and oversee their development and operations.
Develop and mentor engineering managers to maintain company culture.
Establish and promote engineering practices and processes within teams.
Set performance goals, manage performance, and measure team health indicators.
Own product development roadmaps for the teams.
Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to align on strategy and execution.
Expand teams by recruiting and hiring talented engineers.
Requirements
Proven ability to drive multiple teams or large teams of software engineers to deliver outstanding results
Engineering experience in at least one of the following areas: Golang, Python, Java, or distributed integrations
Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long
Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path
Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path
Experience leading multiple teams of engineers, ranging from graduates to seniors
Experience developing and evangelizing engineering practices and processes in teams
Experience developing and managing product development roadmaps
Experience collaborating with stakeholders and product users
Ability to develop and mentor engineering managers to maintain Canonical culture in their teams
Experience expanding teams by hiring great talent
Experience collaborating as part of a leadership team
Experience with performance engineering and DevOps SRE (Nice-to-have)
Experience with accounting, sales, sales operations, or other business roles (Nice-to-have)
