The Engineering Director will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for developing and maintaining internal business systems, data governance solutions, and system integrations at Canonical, supporting the company's growth and innovation in open-source software and enterprise solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead multiple engineering teams and develop their managers to maintain company culture
Develop and promote engineering practices and processes within teams
Set performance goals, measure team health, and take corrective actions as needed
Oversee product development roadmaps for the teams
Collaborate with stakeholders and product users to ensure system requirements are met
Expand teams by recruiting and hiring talented engineers
Participate in the Commercial Systems leadership team to align engineering efforts
Requirements
Proven ability to lead multiple teams of software engineers, ranging from graduates to seniors, and develop engineering managers to maintain Canonical culture in their teams.
Experience developing and evangelizing great engineering practices and processes within engineering teams.
Experience setting and implementing performance management with performance goals and objectives for direct reports and teams.
Ability to identify and measure indicators of team health and take appropriate action where needed.
Accountability for the product development roadmaps of the teams.
Experience collaborating with stakeholders and product users to ensure successful project outcomes.
A strong academic track record from high school and university, or a compelling narrative about an alternative educational or career path.
An undergraduate degree in a technical subject or equivalent experience demonstrating technical expertise.
Proven ability to drive multiple teams or large teams of software engineers to deliver outstanding results.
Engineering experience in at least one of the following areas: CRM systems, ERP systems, Python programming, data engineering governance, or distributed integrations.
Track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results.
Professional written and spoken English skills, with excellent presentation abilities.
Result-oriented mindset with a personal drive to meet commitments.
Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events, with trips lasting up to two weeks.
Experience with performance engineering and DevOps practices, including Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
Experience with compliance-related processes (preferred but not mandatory).
