A senior mechanical engineer leading design, review, and project management of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings, providing technical leadership, client interface, and overseeing project execution from design through construction.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and direct complex HVAC system design, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings.
Independently handle all Mechanical disciplines and assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed.
Interface with clients and design team members to ensure project alignment.
Serve as QAQC reviewer and oversee technical quality of engineering work.
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to designers and engineering staff.
Develop and review Revit BIM models for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems throughout project phases.
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Participate in project meetings, including Owner, Architect, and Construction Administration meetings, with a focus on project budget.
Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to optimize project design and costs.
Conduct site visits to verify conditions, observe construction progress, and ensure compliance with design intent.
Requirements
Minimum of 10 years of related experience in mechanical engineering.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
Ability to serve in QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Experience performing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Ability to conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of sites.
Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings and interface effectively with clients and project team members.
Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
Experience responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Ability to conduct staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Willingness to serve on internal or professional committees as required.
LEED accreditation preferred but not mandatory.
Physical ability to perform site visits which may require walking through construction sites.
