This position involves designing HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, preparing construction drawings using Revit BIM, and collaborating with project teams on educational, healthcare, and commercial projects under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
Key Responsibilities
Design HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, for building projects.
Assist with plumbing and fire protection system designs as needed.
Calculate heating and cooling loads and develop system layouts using energy modeling software.
Create Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases.
Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Interface with clients and project team members through meetings and communication channels.
Requirements
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus required.
Ability to perform designs of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for building design, independently for smaller less technical projects under the supervision of a professional engineer for complex projects.
Ability to calculate heating and cooling loads, and to layout and design ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings as required.
Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Ability to review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Ability to specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Able to effectively handle multiple projects.
Willingness to perform job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, which may require a physical walk-through of the site.
Willingness to assist with plumbing and fire protection designs as necessary.
Willingness to assist in gathering information to respond to RFIs and review of change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Willingness to interface effectively with clients and members of the project team by attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
Willingness to independently research as needed and respond to emergent issues.
Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
