This position involves designing HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, using Revit BIM modeling, and collaborating with project teams on construction and renovation projects across various sectors such as education, healthcare, and commercial buildings.
Key Responsibilities
Design HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, for building projects.
Assist with plumbing and fire protection system designs as needed.
Calculate heating and cooling loads and develop system layouts using energy modeling software.
Create Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases.
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Participate in client and project team meetings, including site visits and construction administration.
Research and respond to emergent project issues and RFIs.
Requirements
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
Experience in designing HVAC systems, including performing calculations of heating and cooling loads, layout and design of ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
Ability to perform designs of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for building design, independently for smaller less technical projects under the supervision of a professional engineer for complex projects.
Experience in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Experience in performing Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Ability to review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience in specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Experience in editing specifications relating to existing or new projects.
Experience in interfacing effectively with clients and project team members by attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
Ability to independently research as needed and respond to emergent issues.
Experience in gathering information to respond to RFIs and review of change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Ability to perform job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of sites.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience with computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
