Job Description

This role involves leading the Commercial Market within the Western Region of CannonDesign, focusing on business development, client engagement, team leadership, and market growth to achieve strategic and financial goals while promoting Living-Centered Design principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop high-performance teams focused on the Commercial Market within the Western Region.
  • Develop and execute a market business plan to drive market growth, client engagement, and team building.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and nurture existing client relationships to achieve revenue targets.
  • Lead high-level client engagement on billable projects and foster long-term client relationships.
  • Enhance the market's brand through external speaking, writing, and promotional activities.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to implement strategic initiatives and ensure profitability of the market.
  • Assess, mentor, and recruit staff to build a diverse, inclusive, and high-performing team.
  • Contribute to practice support activities including market intelligence, strategy development, and staff development.

Requirements

  • Experience in providing leadership of the Commercial Market within a regional context, including developing and leading high-performance diverse teams focused on the development and implementation of the Firmwide Market Business Plan.
  • Ability to develop and execute a market business plan in collaboration with Firmwide Market Leader, Region, Office, and other Market Leadership, outlining strategies and actionable items to advance client engagement, market differentiation, and team building.
  • Proven track record of developing new business opportunities with new and current client partners in the West Region to achieve top line targets, supporting a minimum 10% growth of the practice year over year.
  • Experience in leading, engaging, and partnering at the highest levels with clients on billable project-specific work, and advancing innovative solutions that differentiate the firm and foster long-term client relationships.
  • Ability to act as a leading voice for the market externally and internally through speaking engagements, writing, and other promotional activities.
  • Experience in engaging in activities to advance the firm, the region, the market, and the office, including mentoring market team members and recruiting talented candidates to build a high-performing team.
  • Knowledge of future market trends and opportunities for growth and advancement of the market, including a high level of knowledge of Best Practices, evidence-based, and research-based design.
  • Accountability for achieving a minimum of 15% firm profitability level for the market each year.
  • Experience in assessing, mentoring, coaching, and recruiting staff to build a high-performance, diverse, and inclusive team, and developing future leaders within the market.
  • Ability to take ownership for the growth of a diverse and inclusive team, fostering an environment that encourages leadership, integrity, humility, respect, collaboration, experimentation, innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
  • Time management skills to devote approximately 50% of work time to activities that support brand growth and new business development, 30% to engaging and partnering with clients on billable project work, and 20% to market leadership activities including strategy development, market intelligence, staff growth, and practice support.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of the market, including Best Practices, evidence-based, and research-based design, and to identify future market trends and opportunities.
  • Experience in collaborating with Region and Office Leaders, and Client Leaders to ensure successful implementation of business plan initiatives and achievement of financial targets.
  • Proven ability to achieve a personal goal of generating at least 3 million dollars in net signed fees annually.
  • Experience in leading and serving as a client leader or subject matter expert on select client projects, demonstrating active commitment to client work.
  • Ability to ensure that the business plan’s bottom line initiatives are successfully implemented to achieve at least 15% profitability for the market annually.
  • Mandatory compliance with internal policies, including completing required training within specified timeframes, and adherence to the firm’s Code of Conduct.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of several years of relevant experience in market leadership, business development, and client engagement within the design or architecture industry.
