The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, overseeing, and supporting electrical systems and projects within a refinery, ensuring reliability, safety, and compliance while troubleshooting complex electrical issues and mentoring technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design and oversee installation of electrical systems for capital projects and substations
Support troubleshooting of complex electrical issues in refinery maintenance and reliability
Develop, review, and modify electrical standards and documentation in compliance with NFPA codes and vendor recommendations
Conduct electrical system studies and review designs to ensure system coordination and safety
Provide technical expertise during project execution, including calculations for equipment settings
Act as electrical subject matter expert for capital projects, including upgrades and control systems
Update refinery electrical documentation such as one-lines, schematics, and relaying diagrams
Review and approve electrical system studies and IFA packages, ensuring adherence to client standards
Assist maintenance during unplanned events with technical guidance
Lead and mentor electrical engineers and designers on multiple projects
Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
Minimum of 10 years of related experience in electrical engineering
P.E. licensure (Professional Engineer license)
Ability to manage assigned projects under limited supervision
Experience working with High Voltage Equipment and substations up to 138 kV
Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to specify, order, and oversee the installation of electrical maintenance projects
Experience supporting and troubleshooting complex electrical problems involving refinery maintenance and reliability
Experience designing moderately complex electrical systems for capital projects, including electrical distribution equipment and substation specifications
Experience developing, reviewing, and modifying refinery electrical standards with vendor recommendations and NFPA codes
Experience developing Turnaround work scopes and ensuring all scope is captured during the conceptual phase of projects
Ability to provide calculations and settings for electrical equipment such as UPS systems, motors, transformers, relays, and related substation equipment
Experience reviewing and approving electrical system studies for refinery systems up to 138 kV
Ability to make recommendations for improvements of system studies relating to electrical coordination and arc flash studies, and ensure SKM Model is updated by the project group
Experience updating refinery documentation such as electrical one-lines, motor schematics, relaying, and related substation equipment
Experience reviewing IFA Packages and directing EPCs on designs to follow client standards
Support the maintenance department with technical expertise during unplanned events
Familiarity with SAP, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, and internet
Ability to develop, review, and modify technical standards and documentation
Experience mentoring and leading teams of electrical engineers and designers executing multiple projects
Experience leading field evaluations, RCFA, and modeling calculations
Ability to develop training and mentoring platforms for internal team growth
Physical mobility on the ground and at heights, with the ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs
Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms or scaffolding using appropriate fall protection
Ability to work in all weather conditions including heat, rain, cold, and wind while wearing PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis vests, leather gloves, and steel-toed work boots
Willingness and ability to position oneself to work in confined spaces
Willingness to adhere to client’s random drug testing program prior to entering their site
Willingness to meet client’s facial hair safety policy prior to entering their site
