The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, overseeing, and troubleshooting electrical systems and projects within a refinery, ensuring reliability, safety, and compliance with standards, while providing technical support and leadership to project and maintenance teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design electrical systems for capital projects, including distribution equipment and substations
Oversee installation and maintenance of electrical projects
Troubleshoot complex electrical issues in refinery maintenance and reliability
Develop and review electrical standards and documentation to ensure refinery reliability
Support and provide technical guidance to maintenance technicians during project execution
Develop calculations and specifications for electrical equipment such as UPS, motors, transformers, relays
Act as subject matter expert for electrical scope in capital projects, including upgrades and control systems
Review and approve electrical system studies and ensure updates to electrical models and documentation
Review EPC designs and ensure compliance with client standards
Assist maintenance during unplanned events with technical expertise
Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
Minimum of 10 years of related experience in electrical engineering
P.E. licensure (Professional Engineer license)
Ability to manage assigned projects under limited supervision
Experience working with High Voltage Equipment and substations up to 138 kV
Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to develop, review, and modify refinery electrical standards in accordance with vendor recommendations and NFPA codes
Experience designing moderately complex electrical systems for capital projects, including electrical distribution equipment and substation specifications
Experience supporting Instrumentation Electrical Maintenance Technicians with complex field problems during project execution
Experience reviewing and approving electrical system studies for refinery up to 138 kV during all projects when appropriate
Experience making recommendations for improvements of system studies relating to electrical coordination and arc flash studies, and ensuring SKM Model is updated by the project group
Experience updating refinery documentation such as electrical one-lines, motor schematics, relaying, and related substation equipment
Experience reviewing IFA Packages and directing EPCs on designs to follow Client Standards
Ability to provide technical expertise during unplanned events in the maintenance department
Familiarity with SAP, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation tools, and internet
Ability to meet all client-specific site requirements prior to deployment on field assignments
Physical mobility on the ground and at heights, including the ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs
Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work off platforms or scaffolding using appropriate fall protection
Ability to work in all weather conditions including heat, rain, cold, and wind while wearing PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves, and steel-toed work boots
Willingness and ability to position oneself to work in confined spaces
Willingness to adhere to a client’s random drug testing program prior to entering their site
Willingness to meet a client’s facial hair safety policy prior to entering their site
