This role involves conducting detailed energy audits and designing energy retrofit projects for commercial and industrial clients, ensuring technical feasibility and economic viability while complying with relevant regulations and leveraging utility incentives.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive onsite energy audits to identify inefficiencies in HVAC, lighting, compressed air, steam, and building envelope systems
Develop detailed engineering designs, including equipment specifications, layouts, and control sequences for energy retrofits
Identify and incorporate utility rebates, federal tax credits, and grants into project design and budget
Evaluate site conditions for compliance with local laws and regulations related to energy and building codes
Coordinate with external engineering firms for compliance verification and sign-off on energy savings data
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering
5 to 10 years of experience in energy consulting, ESCO services, or facility engineering with a focus on project development
Capabilities in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design systems
Deep knowledge of HVAC systems, HVAC controls, BMS Systems, Motors, and VFDs
Conducting comprehensive onsite energy audits to identify inefficiencies in HVAC, lighting, compressed air, steam, and building envelope systems
Developing detailed engineering designs, including equipment specifications, layouts, and control sequences for energy retrofits
Identifying and incorporating utility rebates, federal tax credits (e.g., 179D), and state-level grants into project design and budget
Evaluating site conditions of commercial and industrial properties for compliance with NYC local laws and regulations including LL84, LL88, LL97, NYCECC 2025, and ASHRAE 90.1
Coordinating with external engineering firms to establish compliance walks, obtain sign-off on energy savings data, and stamp documentation around NYC local laws or similar regulations
Strong knowledge of energy codes, utility incentive programs, and emissions reporting
Certifications such as PE (Professional Engineer), CEM (Certified Energy Manager), CBCP (Certified Building Commissioning Professional), or CEA (Certified Energy Auditor) are preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations
Ability to work a minimum of forty (40) hours per week, with non-exempt employees eligible for overtime pay and exempt employees possibly working additional hours as necessary
Pre-employment background check including employment verification, criminal history check, and drug screen, with compliance to DOT regulations for safety-sensitive roles
Physical ability to meet the physical demands of the role, as it is a safety-sensitive position
Work environment includes office, site, and field work, with travel up to 70% to project sites in the greater Northeast Region and possibly beyond
